Whether you set the process to run on a Job Queue or set the <em><strong>Automatic Cost Adjustment<\/strong><\/em> to Always on the <em><strong>Inventory Setup<\/strong><\/em>, you must run this process to &#8220;true up&#8221; your inventory before you do any kind of inventory costing analysis.<\/p>\n<p>If not, please check out my other articles on the subject on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apcdynamics.com\/articles\/category\/inventory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">how to properly care for the inventory module in Dynamics 365 Business Central (formerly Dynamics NAV)<\/a><\/p>\n<h1>Adjust Cost Back Dating Transactions<\/h1>\n<p>While asking companies to run the adjust cost process, some people will report that they experience unwanted entries made to the previous accounting periods.<\/p>\n<p>Why? The reason is because the<strong> adjust cost process will always adjust to the date of the original sales transaction<\/strong> (unless specified otherwise).<\/p>\n<p>For example, it&#8217;s 6\/30\/25 and you run the adjust cost process. If you haven&#8217;t run this process in a while, and there was a sales transaction that occurred in 3\/15\/25 that has not been adjusted yet, the resulting adjusting entry will be on 3\/15\/25.<\/p>\n<p>This will cause problems if you&#8217;ve already closed the books for March.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for a clearer view of your item costs over time, our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apcdynamics.com\/business-central-add-ons\/inventory-aging-report\/\">Inventory Aging Report<\/a> add-on provides an accurate, as-of-date snapshot that ties directly to the General Ledger.<\/p>\n<h1>The Importance of General Ledger Setup &#8211; Allow Posting From<\/h1>\n<p>This is where the <strong>Allow Posting From<\/strong> field from the <strong>General Ledger Setup<\/strong> pages comes to the rescue.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-106705\" src=\"https:\/\/www.apcdynamics.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/GLAllowPostingFromBC-1024x614.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1020\" height=\"612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.apcdynamics.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/GLAllowPostingFromBC-1024x614.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.apcdynamics.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/GLAllowPostingFromBC-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.apcdynamics.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/GLAllowPostingFromBC-768x461.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.apcdynamics.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/GLAllowPostingFromBC.jpg 1072w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you set the Allow Posting From on the General Ledger Setup, any adjust entries that are <strong>BEFORE<\/strong> the Allow Posting From date will have same posting date as the Allow Posting From field.<\/p>\n<p>In our example above, it&#8217;s 6\/30\/25 and you run the adjust cost process. In addition, you set the Allow Posting From to 6\/1\/25. If there was a sales transaction that occurred in 3\/15\/25 that has not been adjusted yet, <strong>the resulting adjusting entry will be posted on 6\/1\/25<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>Setting the Allow Posting From should be done <strong>after<\/strong> you close the month out, <strong>NOT<\/strong> before.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve seen situations where the user changed the Allow Posting From <strong>BEFORE<\/strong> the adjust cost was ran.
